Which Multi Sport Helmet Size Does my Child Need?

Most 3–5-year-olds need an XXS/XS helmet in the 45–52 cm range. Use the table and fit steps below to choose by age and head circumference, then narrow by brand.

How to check the fit once the helmet is on

Three checks confirm a correct fit. Run all three before your child rides.

– Two-finger rule: the helmet sits two finger-widths above the eyebrow. Any higher and it exposes the forehead.

– V-strap check: the chin straps form a V shape just below each ear. Adjust the side sliders until the V sits snug.

– Shake test: your child shakes their head side to side and front to back. The helmet moves with the head, not independently of it.

– Roll-off test: push the front of the helmet backward. It should not roll off the head. If it does, tighten the retention dial.

A second-hand helmet fails these checks more often than a new one. Expanded polystyrene (EPS) liners compress on impact even when external damage is invisible. Always buy new. What does MIPS do and when does it matter?

Replace any helmet every three to five years regardless of impact history — UV exposure and heat degrade the liner from the inside. Check the manufacture date on the inside liner sticker and count from that date, not from the purchase date.
